Malia Obama wore a T-shirt with the words ‘Smoking kills’ on it at a music festival in Philadelphia on Sunday – just weeks after puffing on a suspicious cigarette at Chicago’s Lollapalooza.
She was pictured with a friend at the Budweiser Made in America Festival, with the wise message displayed on the front of her top.
The 18-year-old, who is taking a gap year and will attend Harvard in 2017, also sported a crimson baseball hat with an H on it – a nod to her future alma mater.
Sunday’s lineup at the festival included Coldplay, Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros, and Chance The Rapper – whom Malia saw at the 2014 edition of Lollapalooza.
Just a few weeks ago, Malia was pictured smoking at this year’s Lollapalooza, with a witness claiming her cigarette contained marijuana.
Footage published by Radar Online showed her among the crowd, taking a drag from the cigarette in the background of the video.
Malia has suffered from asthma, and her father Barack has recounted in the past how scared he was when she had trouble breathing at just four years old.
Smoking presents additional risks for asthma sufferers, as it can trigger attacks in addition to the usual long-term effects – which makes the message on Malia’s T-shirt a well calculated move indeed.
