Almost exactly one year ago, Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend Cathriona White shook the world when she died of a suicidal overdose. The lethal drug cocktail included Ambien, Percocet, and Propranolol. Many condolences were shared and many tears shed. She even left a suicide note, mentioning Carrey.
However, that may not have been the whole story. White’s husband Mike Burton is now suing Carrey for the death of his wife. He claims that Carrey provided her with the drugs after using an alias to obtain them.
A report from Esquire goes into more detail:
“After obtaining these drugs illegally and under a bogus name (“Arthur King”), Mr. Carrey proceeded to provide the prescription drugs to his 30-year-old girlfriend, Cathriona White,”the suit reads. “Mr. Carrey did so despite the fact that he knew full well that Ms. White was ill equipped to ingest and manage highly addictive prescription drugs outside the care of a liscensed (sic.) physician.”
That’s not all. In addition to allegations that he provided her with the drugs, he is also being charged with trying to cover the whole thing up.
The suit goes on to allege that Carrey attempted to cover up his involvement in her death. “In an effort to cover-up his conduct and complicity in her death, Carrey sent a bogus text message on September 27, 2015 to White (who was already deceased) pretending as though he had misplaced the drugs and insinuating White may have taken them from Carrey without his knowledge.”
Should these allegations prove true, Carrey can say goodbye to his freedom. Even with the best lawyer money can buy, it isn’t often that you can get away with killing someone – even if accidental.
