WATCH: Trump Shares What He Believes the ‘Top Three’ Functions of the Federal Government Are

Republican front-runner Donald Trump identified health care and education as two of the three top functions of the federal government on Tuesday at a CNN town hall.

“In your opinion, what are the top three functions of the United States government?” an attendee asked the billionaire.

Trump said the “greatest function of all by far” is security.

“I would also say health care, education,” he added.

Moderator Anderson Cooper pressed him on his answer.

“So in terms of federal government role, you’re saying security. But you also say health care and education should be provided by the federal government,” Cooper said.

“Those are two of the things. Yeah, sure. There are obviously many things. Housing, providing great neighborhoods,” Trump answered.

Cooper reminded Trump that he formerly said he’d like to end the Department of Education.

“Aren’t you against the federal government’s involvement in education?” he asked. “Don’t you want it to devolve to states?”

“No, I want it to go to states. Yeah, absolutely,” he replied.

“So that’s not part of what the federal government should do?” Cooper asked.

“Well, the federal government. But the concept of the country is that we have to have education within the country,” Trump replied.

“And federal health care run by the federal government?” Cooper asked.

“Health care. We need health care for our people. Obamacare is a disaster,” Trump said.

“That is something that the government should be doing?” Cooper pressed.

“The government can lead it but it should be privately done,” Trump said.
