Donald Trump made more than just one mistake when he tweeted out a picture for 2016’s Cinco de Mayo.
Trump has been caught taking a peek at a picture of his ex-wife Marla Maples in a tweet showing him eating a taco bowl and celebrating how he ‘loves Hispanics’.
The Republican presumptive nominee sent out a tweet on Thursday that said: ‘Happy #CincoDeMayo! The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill. I love Hispanics!’
However, peering out from under a newspaper was a picture of Ms Maples wearing a blue bikini at the Hawaiian Tropic beauty pageant in 1985.
Trump divorced his first wife, Ivana, in 1991 after his long-running affair with Ms Maples became public knowledge.
Ms Maples is the mother of Tiffany Trump, giving birth to The Donald’s youngest daughter in 1993 and marrying the billionaire two months later.
They divorced in 1999 and Trump married his current wife, Melania, in 2005.
The photograph was noticed underneath a taco bowl Trump was pictured eating in Trump Tower in New York.
He said the food was from the Trump Tower Grill, but the restaurant’s menu does not include taco bowls.
They were, however, on the menu at the Trump Cafe as a special on Thursday to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
For $13.50, people visiting The Donald’s Fifth Avenue flagship building can enjoy a Taco fiesta!, which includes ‘ground sautéed beef with jalapeños, onions, tomatoes, and chili spices served in a taco shell topped with lettuce and cheddar cheese’.
Of course, that did not stop people from commenting on the fact that Cinco de Mayo is a specifically Mexican holiday (not something every “hispanic” would celebrate) and that taco bowls are not a Mexican dish, despite using Mexican inspired flavors.
The Cafe was also offering burritos, quesadillas and fajitas as specials for Cinco de Mayo.
Eater sampled the beef tacos from Trump Cafe earlier this year, writing: ‘On the same pass I also ordered “beef tacos” ($13.50) which turned out to be a fried tortilla bowl heaped with romaine lettuce, grated yellow cheese, and plain ground beef that was so devoid of flavor, it rendered an insult to Mexicans every bit as profound as Trump’s previous pronouncements.
‘Trump food is bland food.’
In an interview with the Financial Times in February 2013, Trump hailed the buffet at Trump Grill as ‘the best in New York’.
Ivanka Trump also chimed in during that interview, adding: ‘The best restaurant in Midtown.’
The menu includes a salad named after her featuring ‘iced tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, Mediterranean cured olives, feta cheese and romaine lettuce with Greek dressing’.
That costs $18 – and chicken, shrimp, crab cakes, lobster or steak can be added for an additional fee.
